As the days pass, his unease grows and when he finds a mysterious file on the family shared drive, his curiosity gets the better of him and he discovers it is his mother’s secret memoir. Needing to understand her disappearance, Leo begins to read the book, searching for clues.

Meanwhile, his life is complicated when Adam, an intriguing boy, shows up at the end of the school year and is assigned as his study partner. Old stresses in his friend group begin to tear apart his long-standing relationships while he wonders if Adam shares his feelings.

As he reads his mother’s book, he begins to see her in a new light, propelling him to look for the lost side of his family that still lives in Spain, setting off a chain reaction of unintended consequences of old grudges and shady pasts.

Rita didn't see it coming. In the space of a few days, she loses her job, her partner of years, and — thanks to a landlord cashing out — her apartment. Late forties, and suddenly she has nothing left to lose.

Ernesto didn't see it coming either. Talked into standing up at his best friend's wedding to confess a fake love and stop it, he ends up with a black eye courtesy of the bride, a viral video, and an eviction notice from the roommates he used to call friends.

Two strangers, two spectacular disasters, one bar table and a few too many drinks. By the time the hangover wears off, Rita and Ernesto have decided there's only one sane response to losing everything: get paid to ruin other people's weddings.

As their business takes off across Spain's summer wedding circuit, so does something neither of them ordered — a friendship that keeps threatening to become more, no matter how loudly the twenty-year age gap objects. Somewhere between the chaos, the revenge, and the runaway brides, Rita and Ernesto start rebuilding the lives they thought had ended — and discover that the wreckage might be exactly where they needed to start.
